FIRST MESONET TOWER Officially Unveiled

Oct. 30, 2023 saw the ceremonial unveiling and announcement of the first live Mesonet Tower, in Clarksville, MD. Members of both UMD and MDEM teams joined the media and local officials to celebrate the start of a "new era of weather prediction."

First Mesonet Tower Installation Begins

On October 12, 2023, the Mesonet team broke ground in Howard County on the first MD Mesonet tower. By the end of the day, Tower #1 was in place, equipment online, and transmitting data. The first of many to come!

Mesonet Agreement Signed by State, College Leaders

UMD and MDEM dignitaries hosted Maryland Governor Larry Hogan at a ceremonial signing event for the Maryland Mesonet Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement officially brings the Mesonet into existence!
